Description
This delightful portrait miniature is beautifully observed and comes in what appears to be its original black moulded frame. The photos show the portrait out of the frame and the backing paper including the paper oval with "Isabey" hand written in ink and contemporary to the miniature.
Jean-Baptiste Isabey was a leading miniaturist or The French Empire Period and this miniature bears a close resemblance to his work. It is likely by a follower and dates circa 1810-20.
The frame measures approximately 10.5cm x 9cm while the miniature is approximately 6.5cm x 5cm. It appears to be painted on ivory.
