AUSTRALIAN Antique 15ct Gold Pietra Dura Brooch c.1860

This is a very fine early Australian gold brooch set with an Italian Pietra Dura plaque, circa 1860-70.  It is signed "Lawson" on the rim of the brooch, so far I have been unable to work out who Lawson may have been.

There are three small areas of missing gold applique work, otherwise the brooch is in very good condition.

This is a rare survivor, it bears similarities to a piece by Steiner features in Jack Grace's book, p112, "Australian Jewellers", Selected early pieces from the Jack Grace Collection.
