Description

A lovely Victorian example of an elegantly proportioned standish or inkstand, fully hallmarked for London 1878 and made by the well regarded Barnards, Walter and John.

The stand bears a presentation inscription which reads, " Presented to the Rev. A. J. Ard, A.M. together with a purse of sovereigns. On the occasion of him leaving Holywood by a number of parishioners and other friends who hold him in affectionate remembrance. Holywood 9th October 1878."

The stand features a removable taperstick and two well made cut glass ink bottles.  The whole is in perfect condition and shows fine original patina.
